A Network Operations Center is typically found in large enterprises with extensive networks and commercial network service providers (NOC). In general, a Network Operations Center is a centralised location where dedicated personnel provide hourly supervision, monitoring, and management of servers, databases, firewalls, devices, and related services. It is a room outfitted with devices that provide performance analysis of the networks under surveillance. The detailed status of networks can be monitored using network management software on next-generation workstations. The NOC serves as the nervous system for large-scale organisations, managing and optimising business tasks, performing network administration and troubleshooting, handling software distribution, performance monitoring, and coordination with affiliated networks.
The management of these new technologies presents difficulties for the operations teams, necessitating the development of new abilities and a new way of thinking to support the cloudified infrastructure. Automation and management system introduction alone cannot address these issues. In order to provide a smooth transition from the operation of the current legacy network to the new cloudified network operation, it is important to optimise the process flow and organisation in terms of new staff knowledge and skill set training. Early telco clouds used network-level virtualization techniques that originated in datacenters. In preparation for the arrival of 5G, telco clouds are creating hybrid cloud architectures and more recent technologies like containers and microservices.Containers and microservices will have to coexist with older virtualized network functions (VNFs), such as EPC, SD-WAN, and security technologies, as they are deployed into telco clouds.
